Help Complete the Heart of De-Tong Ling

Nestled in the peaceful wilderness of Kangaroo Island, South Australia, De-Tong Ling Retreat Centre has been a place of meditation, retreat and Dharma practice for more than 30 years.

Named by Lama Zopa Rinpoche, De-Tong Ling offers the rare conditions of silence, solitude and natural beauty that support genuine retreat and inner transformation. Officially opened in 1994 after Khensur Kangurwa Lobsang Thubten Rinpoche purified and blessed the land, he predicted:

“Many great meditators will practice here.”

Over the past nine years, we have been developing a new retreat complex to better support group retreats and long-term practice. Comfortable accommodation, a modern kitchen and dining area have already been completed.

The final stage is the new meditation hall.

This hall will become the heart of De Tong Ling—a dedicated space where practitioners can gather for meditation, authentic Buddhist teachings and retreat in one peaceful, purpose-built environment.

Our aspiration is for De Tong Ling to serve the wider FPMT community throughout the Asia-Pacific region, welcoming Dharma centres, teachers, students and practitioners to experience the unique peace and solitude this special place offers.

Help Bring This Vision to Life

The total cost to complete the meditation hall is A$600,000.

Thanks to the generosity of Venerable Gyatso and our Australian community, A$120,000 has already been raised.

A further A$480,000 is needed to complete the project.
